upcoming Shahenshahi New Year. The success of any event, she pointed out, is being a two way process of
good organization and response from the participants in good time, so that the right amount of food is
ordered to avoid unnecessary surplus or deficit. In case of any cancellations except for medical reasons, it is
our fiscal responsibility to charge the person to prevent the organization from going into a loss. We strive
each year not to raise our membership dues and keep dinner fees to the minimum, but this is becoming
increasingly difficult as shown after each event in the detailed cost breakdown provided to members.
She also described the picnic held in July at Mount Royal Park as well attended; the work that went into
updating the ZAQ directory; the Care Committee and the Investment committee who will have their reports to
follow; the ZAQ website running in three languages, English, French and Farsi and also on Face Book and
Twitter; and the ZAQ newsletter as much enjoyed and appreciated by all.
Dolly’s mention of the Sports Committee was two-fold recognizing the basketball team having participated in
the N.A. Zoroastrian Games in L.A. July 2-6, 2014 along with Sebastien Boucley’s two Gold medals for 100
meters and 4x100 meters relay; and the adult badminton sessions which are well attended and which helps
to keep us in shape and to socialize after the games. In relation to sports, she informed members of
Sebastien and Jasmine Boucley’s participation in the 2015 Canada Games in Prince George, BC with
Sebastien and his Quebec Boys’ Squash team having won the bronze medal, and the Girls’ team including
Jasmine taking 7th place.
On August 8th 2014, ZAQ hosted a dinner at a restaurant in Outremont for the visiting scholars presenting on
Zoroastrian subjects and attending the Conference of the International Society of Iranian Studies at
Bonaventure Hilton, August 6-9th.
The FEZANA JOURNAL is produced in Montreal, which Dolly also spoke of as Editor in Chief, Shahrokh
Khanizadeh as Layout Editor, and ZAQ member Vahishta Canteenwalla as Copy Editor.
In January we lost a 91 year old Zoroastrian lady who had been living in the Maimonides Geriatric Centre.
The Centre contacted the association for Zoroastrian funeral arrangements as the lady had no known
relatives in Montreal. The community rallied round and through the hard work of Afshin Irankhah who
diligently contacted her distant relatives in Iran, the body was released and a funeral service by Ervad Gev
Karkaria was held February 15, with cremation on February 17th.
Dolly concluded with it having been a real pleasure to work with this young and dynamic committee, our
committee meetings were fun and she wished the next President the same fun and co-operation with the
new committee. Fresh faces of the next generation will continue to move the Association forward, guide it
and take it to greater heights.
Shirine Karkaria & Vida Fereydoonzad both thanked Dolly Dastoor in turn, for her years of dedication and for
her hard work and leadership as President 2013-2015, with applause that followed.
